Theory Of Mind – Blend Mishkin & Soul Sugar (LP) BOOMREW003
A collaboration between Blend Mishkin from Athens and Parisian artist Soul Sugar has resulted in the genre-bending album “Theory of Mind”. Theory Of Mind features nine tracks that blend jazz, soul, reggae, afro-beat, and elements from 70s b-movie soundtracks. This amazing album includes vintage keyboard instruments like the Hammond Organ, Clavinet, and Fender Rhodes electric piano, expertly played by Soul Sugar (Guillaume Metenier) and produced by Blend Mishkin.
Soul Sugar, a protégé of jazz master Dr. Lonnie Smith, infuses the album with a rich blend of mellowness and complexity through his intricate reggae-jazz improvisation. Meanwhile, Blend Mishkin contributes versatile elements of funk and reggae rhythms, creating a timeless sonic landscape.
The album includes guest vocalists on four tracks: Georges Perin delivers a heavy soul tune “I Miss Those Days”. Fae Simon offers a smooth vocal on a steppers groove. Thaliah adds smoky jazz in “Moonlit Letter” and Jeffrey Diop contributes a chant in “Big Boss in a Small Town”.
The recording sessions took place in Athens and Paris, emphasizing cultural exchange alongside musical experimentation. “We wanted to create something that felt organic and real,” says Guillaume. “Using these incredible vintage instruments allowed us to tap into a sound that feels both timeless and brand new.” Blend adds, “This album is about mixing our roots, our sounds, and our experiences. It’s a celebration of music that transcends borders and eras.”
Theory of Mind is a cross-cultural journey that blends the vibrant melodies of Athens with the urban grooves of Paris.
